The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has pledged to move swiftly in appointing a new head coach for Harambee Stars following the resignation of Engin Firat.

“Football Kenya Federation will consult widely with relevant stakeholders to identify and appoint a suitable successor,” Hussein stated. “Our priority is to ensure the national team gets back on track and is adequately prepared for CHAN.”
Firat, who stepped down earlier this week, cited unpaid arrears as a reason for his decision. His tenure, marked by Kenya’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), ended amidst criticism of his tactics and team selection.
Hussein also acknowledged the challenges facing Harambee Stars, noting that the transition will be managed professionally and transparently. “We understand the anxiety this may cause among fans and players, but we are committed to ensuring stability and progress for the national team,” he said.
The Federation has assured stakeholders that consultations with technical committees and other relevant parties will be expedited to meet the February 2025 CHAN schedule.
