Gor Mahia finds itself tangled in an ongoing contractual dispute with 38-year-old Malian goalkeeper Adama Keita, who initially reported a breach of contract to Fifa, resulting in a Sh3 million damages award.
Despite believing they had resolved the matter, the ghost of Adama Keita has returned, demanding more from the club. Keita's persistence led Fifa to impose a transfer ban on Gor Mahia due to delayed settlement of the awarded amount.

In an effort to lift the ban, the FKF Premier League champions negotiated a two-installment payment plan with Keita. The agreement stipulated an 18% per annum interest on the final installment of Sh2,642,307 if not paid by May 1, 2023.
Although Gor Mahia paid the first installment in March, enabling them to sign new players, the second installment was disbursed late, breaching the payment agreement. Keita, seizing this opportunity, returned to FIFA and obtained orders compelling the club to compensate him.
Now, Gor Mahia faces a financial burden of Sh3,304,615, which includes Sh362,564 in interest and Sh2,121,189 as a contractual penalty. Failure to pay within 45 days may result in another transfer ban as per Fifa regulations.
The consequences of non-payment could be severe, including a ban on registering new players, both nationally and internationally, for up to three consecutive registration periods. The matter may also be escalated to the Fifa Disciplinary Committee if full payment is not made by the end of the three registration periods.
Gor Mahia is now in a race against time to settle the outstanding amount and avoid further repercussions from the lingering Adama Keita saga.
