Winger Eric Zakayo calmly slotted home the opener after relentless pressure from the Kenyan side.
On the 30th-minute mark, striker David Simiyu doubled the advantage, finishing off a precise delivery from fullback Baraka Badi to give coach Etienne Ndayiragije’s charges a comfortable cushion before halftime.
Garde Cotes struggled to create meaningful chances, with Police’s defence—anchored by Joash Onyango, Brian Okoth, Badi, and Emmanuel Erupe—keeping the Djibouti side at bay.
The half ended 2-0, but Police had signalled their intent with their high tempo and attacking flair.
The second half was even more ruthless. In the 64th minute, Badi crowned his impressive display with a thunderous strike that deflected past goalkeeper Abeko to make it 3-0.
Just three minutes later, substitute Edward Omondi, introduced to inject fresh energy into the attack, produced a diving header from Moise Mbombo’s cross to seal the victory at 4-0.
Police could have added more to their tally. David Okoth was denied a fifth by a last-ditch clearance from Garde Cotes captain Mohamed Yasmin in the 76th minute, while Mbombo saw a dazzling solo run end in disappointment when his effort rolled narrowly wide nine minutes from time.
The result leaves Kenya Police top of Group A with three points, ahead of Ethiopian Coffee and Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars, who were scheduled to meet later in the day.
