KURA gives Garissa encroachers 30 days to vacate urban road reserves

KURA has identified critical violations along several roads in Garissa Town, including Bashal-Sambul Road, Sambul-Mikono Road, Miraa Road, Garissa Ndogo, Posta Road, Sankuri Road, Alfatah Road, and Ngamia Road.
The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has issued a removal notice to individuals and entities that have encroached on urban trunk roads in Garissa Town.
The notice, which was issued under the Kenya Roads Act, 2007, Section 49, directs the encroachers to remove all structures and vacate the road reserves within 30 days.

KURA has identified critical violations along several roads in Garissa Town, including Bashal-Sambul Road, Sambul-Mikono Road, Miraa Road, Garissa Ndogo, Posta Road, Sankuri Road, Alfatah Road, and Ngamia Road.
These violations include encroachment into road reserves, illegal sewer structures obstructing drains, and uncontrolled solid.
"Failure to comply with the notice will result in enforcement action, including the forcible removal of all encroachments at the expense of the encroachers," reads the notice.

KURA has warned that non-compliance may also lead to criminal prosecution for obstruction and defiance of the notice under Section 49(6) of the Act.
The encroachers have been given 30 days to comply with the notice, which expires on Monday, August 18, 2025.
KURA has emphasised the importance of protecting and maintaining road corridors in urban national trunk roads under its jurisdiction.
As mandated under the Kenya Roads Act, 2007, KURA is responsible for protecting and maintaining road corridors in urban national trunk roads.
The authority has been working to address the issue of encroachment and ensure that the roads are safe and accessible to all users.
