Schools have until February 28 to register Grade 6 learners for KPSEA

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has directed all school headteachers to ensure that Grade 6 learners are registered afresh through the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) portal.

KNEC Chairperson David Njengere announced on Friday that registration for the KPSEA exams scheduled for November had already begun, with the deadline set for February 28.

"School heads must ensure all eligible candidates are properly registered through the KPSEA portal before the deadline," he said.

Schools are required to log into the KNEC Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal using their centre log-in credentials.

The web-based system has an audit trail to track actions performed by users to ensure data integrity.

Njengere also advised school heads to review and correct learners' details within the registration period where necessary.

He stressed the importance of accuracy, urging school heads to verify candidates' names as per their birth certificates.

Other crucial details required include gender, year of birth, citizenship, religious education options, and disability status.

For learners with disabilities, schools must select the appropriate category such as blind, low vision, deaf, or physical disabilities. Those without any disability must be marked as "None."

Upon successfully saving a learner's details, a confirmation message, "KPSEA Learner details amended successfully," will appear on the screen.

If a candidate needs to be removed from the list, school heads can click the "remove" button, triggering a confirmation message stating, "Learner Removed from KPSEA registration successfully."

Njengere warned school administrators against presenting ineligible candidates for the exams, cautioning that registering ghost candidates amounts to assessment malpractice.

He stated that such actions could lead to sanctions, including the deregistration of a school as a KNEC assessment centre.
