Super Metro suspends operations for three days to finalise compliance

In a statement on Monday, Super Metro reassured passengers of its commitment to meeting all necessary safety and regulatory standards.

Super Metro Limited has announced the suspension of its operations for three days to fulfil regulatory requirements.

The suspension follows the company’s achievement of 90% compliance with directives from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB).

The company’s decision comes after an NTSA directive on March 20, 2025, which initially halted Super Metro’s operations due to multiple road safety violations.

Although a temporary court order later lifted the suspension, allowing buses to resume normal services, the company has now chosen to halt operations once again to complete outstanding compliance measures.

In a statement on Monday, Super Metro reassured passengers of its commitment to meeting all necessary safety and regulatory standards.

“Following a hearing with the Transport Licensing Appeals Board, the Board has directed Super Metro Limited to suspend operations for the next three days to finalise the remaining compliance measures,” the company said.

Super Metro emphasised its respect for the court’s decision and the TLAB’s directive, assuring customers that it is working diligently to resolve the issues behind the suspension.

“We are working diligently to address the outstanding compliance issues within the stipulated timeframe and will resume operations as soon as we receive approval from the relevant authorities,” the company stated.

The company also apologised for any inconvenience caused by the suspension.

“Super Metro Limited remains dedicated to providing safe, reliable, and efficient transport services, and we appreciate your understanding and support during this period,” it added.

The NTSA had previously identified several issues with Super Metro’s operations, including expired inspection certificates, invalid road service licences, and failure to meet certain safety standards.

Additionally, the authority found discrepancies in driver qualifications, leading to the suspension of licences for 64 drivers who failed retests on March 10, 2025.

The NTSA had also set conditions for Super Metro to regain its operating licence, including compliance checks on 294 vehicles and retesting 42 drivers with speeding violations.

“The company must present 294 vehicles with violations for compliance inspection at Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre and obtain compliance reports for all vehicles. Additionally, 42 drivers—out of the 109 with speeding violations—must be presented for a retest at the Likoni Driver Test Centre,” the NTSA stated.
