Health CS Duale says he will unveil list of fraudulent health facilities on June 14

“The list will expose facilities previously contracted under the former NHIF that are implicated in fraudulent activities,” he said.
Duale made the remarks during the launch of a partnership between the Ministry of Health and Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.
The collaboration, supported by the Social Health Authority (SHA), is aimed at expanding access to life-saving surgeries, including kidney and heart procedures, especially for vulnerable Kenyans.
“This partnership is a key step in reducing catastrophic health costs, especially for the most vulnerable in our communities. No Kenyan should be denied life-saving treatment because of financial limitations,” Duale stated.
He emphasised that the government is taking a firm stand against unqualified health practitioners and non-compliant facilities, urging all players in the sector to operate within the law.
According to the CS, enforcement is key to achieving the goals of Universal Health Coverage.
Duale commended Aga Khan University Hospital for taking the lead and encouraged other public, private, and faith-based providers to adopt similar models.
He also called for the full implementation of the SHA Tariff and Benefits Package to ensure affordable and seamless access to critical care.
The event was attended by Aga Khan University President Dr. Sulaiman Shahbuddin and AKUH CEO Rashid Khalani.
Duale was accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, SHA Chairman Dr. Abdi Mohamed, and other senior officials.
In March, CS Duale cautioned that a large number of private clinics operating in residential estates will shut down once the newly introduced Social Health Authority (SHA) becomes fully operational.
Duale insisted that the transition to SHA would expose malpractices in the sector, leading to the closure of clinics that had been taking advantage of NHIF weaknesses.
"I'm telling you, mark my words today, the day the Social Health Authority (SHA) takes root, 60 per cent of the many clinics you see in the estates will close. Most hospitals that you thought were doing good work were open because of the fraud that was taking place in NHIF," he stated.
