Farmers are encouraged to stay updated with local forecasts and prepare for the expected rains, while urban residents should anticipate occasional fog, drizzle, and cloudy conditions, especially in the mornings and evenings.
Rains, chilly mornings, and gusty winds are expected to prevail across the country this week, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.
In its seven-day forecast, the department predicts that most regions will experience a combination of heavy rainfall, cool mornings, and cloudy skies from Tuesday, July 22, to Saturday, July 26, 2025.

“Rainfall is expected over a few parts of the country, mainly in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley,” the weatherman said, adding that the weather will be generally cold and cloudy in many regions.
The forecast indicates that the highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, South-Eastern lowlands, Rift Valley, and parts of north-western Kenya will experience low temperatures, persistent cloud cover, and occasional light rain.
Affected counties include Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi. These areas are expected to have cloudy mornings with occasional light showers, followed by sunny intervals during the day. Nights will remain partly cloudy.
Sunny intervals
“Cloudy conditions are likely to prevail in the mornings, giving way to sunny intervals in most of the country, with afternoon showers expected in isolated areas,” the department said.
The highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley—including Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Narok—are expected to experience sunny mornings with light rains in some areas.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, isolated afternoon thunderstorms are likely, while some areas may also receive showers at night.
In the northern region, including Turkana and Samburu counties, sunny conditions are forecast during the day, with partly cloudy nights. However, some areas may experience isolated morning showers, afternoon rainfall, or rain at night.
Counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will see sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy nights, with little to no rainfall expected.
Cloudy mornings
In the South-Eastern lowlands—covering Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River County—mornings will be cloudy, followed by sunny intervals. Nights will remain partly cloudy.
Along the coastal strip—including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and the coastal parts of Tana River—sunny days and partly cloudy nights are expected, though isolated showers may occur in the morning or afternoon.
The weatherman also warned of strong winds across several regions, including parts of the Coast, South-Eastern lowlands, North-Eastern, and North-Western Kenya.
Wind speeds are expected to exceed 25 knots (approximately 12.86 metres per second), which could disrupt marine activities and other outdoor operations.
“Motorists are advised to be cautious, especially in areas expecting rain, due to possible reduced visibility and slippery roads,” the weatherman warned.
Low nighttime temperatures
The department has also warned that nighttime temperatures in the highland areas could drop below 10°C, particularly around Mt Kilimanjaro and parts of the Central Highlands. Residents in these regions are advised to dress warmly to protect against the cold.
Regarding rainfall distribution, the department said showers are expected to be near to above average in parts of the Lake Victoria Basin, both sides of the Rift Valley, and some areas in northwestern Kenya.
Farmers are encouraged to stay updated with local forecasts and prepare for the expected rains, while urban residents should anticipate occasional fog, drizzle, and cloudy conditions, especially in the mornings and evenings.
In its Climate Outlook for July 2025, the weatherman confirmed that cool temperatures, overcast skies, fog, and intermittent light rainfall will continue to dominate weather patterns across much of the country throughout the month.
