Kenya braces for wet and warm days in five-day met forecast

Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa are bracing for a shift in weather as the Kenya Meteorological Department forecasts a blend of showers, sunshine, and cloudy skies across several regions over the next five days.
In its latest advisory issued on Friday, June 20, the department revealed that Nairobi is set to experience intermittent showers and overcast conditions throughout the day and night, with daytime highs reaching 27°C and nighttime lows dropping to a chilly 9°C.

The capital is among several counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley region forecasted to experience similar weather.
Other counties listed include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka.
The department also noted that the Coast region, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and the coastal areas of Tana River, will mostly experience sunny conditions during the day, although light showers are expected in some areas.
Maximum daytime temperatures are set to reach 31°C, while nights will remain warm at around 21°C.
For the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley, mostly rainy weather with showers and thunderstorms is expected over several areas.
Counties affected include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
In the South-Eastern Lowlands, covering Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River, the department forecast cloudy conditions breaking into sunny intervals for most of the five days.
A few showers are expected on Saturday afternoon. Temperatures are projected to rise to a high of 31°C during the day and fall to 11°C at night.
Turkana and Samburu counties in the North-Western region are expected to receive rain, showers, and thunderstorms in several areas, both during the day and at night.
However, these conditions will alternate with sunny intervals and partly cloudy weather. Maximum temperatures could reach 36°C, with nighttime temperatures dropping to 9°C.
Meanwhile, the North-Eastern region, which includes Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, will experience mainly sunny days and partly cloudy nights. Daytime temperatures are forecast to peak at 37°C, with nighttime lows of 15°C.
