Ministry of Health revokes 306 nursing internships, cites ineligibility

The Ministry also revealed that its investigation had uncovered a separate group of 316 pre-interns who met the eligibility criteria but had been inadvertently left out of the initial placement. The individuals will now be included in the 2025/2026 internship cohort.

The Ministry of Health has revoked internship placements for 306 Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduates after it emerged they were not eligible for the 2025/2026 cohort, citing failure to meet graduation requirements.

In a statement on Wednesday, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said the affected individuals were part of a batch of 2,098 pre-interns posted on July 1, 2025.

He explained that the Ministry, after reviewing the list, found that the 306 had not graduated and were therefore not qualified to take up internship positions.

“The posting offers for 306 BSc Nurses have been revoked, in addition to the 42 previously revoked on 21st July, 2025,” he said.

Duale noted that all affected internship centres had been duly informed of the revocations.

The Ministry also revealed that its investigation had uncovered a separate group of 316 pre-interns who met the eligibility criteria but had been inadvertently left out of the initial placement. The individuals, he said, will now be included in the 2025/2026 internship cohort.

“The 316 BSc Nursing pre-interns are advised to collect their internship offer letters in person on Friday, 1st August 2025, from 7:00 a.m. at Afya House, Ministry of Health Headquarters, Nairobi,” read the statement.

It further clarified that only individuals presenting a valid National Identity Card would be issued offer letters.

Duale assured candidates and stakeholders of the Ministry’s commitment to upholding integrity, fairness and transparency in internship placements.

“We thank all stakeholders and candidates for their patience, understanding, cooperation, and continued trust in the Government’s processes,” he said.
