KCB Rugby clinch Kabeberi Sevens title, close in on National Sevens crown

The victory handed KCB their third trophy of the season and a fourth straight Kabeberi crown, making them only the second club to achieve a four-peat at the tournament.
KCB Rugby strengthened their hold on the 2025 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit with a 20-10 win over Daystar Falcons in the Kabeberi Sevens final at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi on Sunday.
The bankers dominated the first half. Vincent Onyala set up Elvis Olukusi for the opener before scrum-half Samuel Asati crossed to stretch the lead. Onyala then combined with Bob Muhati for his own try, and Olukusi struck again just before halftime to give KCB a commanding 20-0 advantage.

The Falcons, appearing in their first-ever cup final after going unbeaten in five matches earlier in the tournament, hit back after the break. Kenya Sevens speedster Patrick Odongo darted over to reduce the deficit, and the team added a late consolation try. But KCB’s early dominance had already decided the contest.
Third season trophy
The victory handed KCB their third trophy of the season and a fourth straight Kabeberi crown, making them only the second club to achieve a four-peat at the tournament. Mwamba RFC first set the mark with four consecutive titles between 1988 and 1991.
In total, the Bankers have now won the Kabeberi Sevens six times, with previous triumphs in 2008, 2014, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
To reach the final, KCB edged Kabras Sugar 21-17 in a tense semifinal, while Daystar produced the upset of the weekend by edging Strathmore Leos 12-10. Kabras later secured third place with a 24-12 win over Strathmore, powered by tries from Brian Mutua, Kevin Wekesa and Mathias Osimbo.
With the Kabeberi win, KCB lead the circuit standings on 114 points, well clear of Strathmore on 95.
With only the Dala Sevens left in Kisumu next weekend, the Bankers need just four more points to secure the national title—even if Strathmore take the maximum 22.
