Six services to be affected by Safaricom’s shutdown for system maintenance

The services to be affected include all airtime top-up services, Okoa Jahazi services and all bundle purchases via airtime and M-Pesa.

At least six Safaricom services will be affected by a system maintenance shutdown announced by the telecommunications company.

"Dear customers, we will carry out system maintenance and upgrades from 10 pm, October 26, to 5 am, October 27, 2024. During this period, you may experience an interruption in the services," Safaricom said in a notice.

The services to be affected include all airtime top-up services, Okoa Jahazi services and all bundle purchases via airtime and M-Pesa.

Other services to be affected are all subscription services, post-paid payments, Sambaza, Bonga and SIM swaps.

"Other than for the services listed above, all other services, will remain available. We apologise for the inconvenience," Safaricom added.

on October 23, 2024, Safaricom commemorated the company's 24th anniversary since its inception.

Safaricom's financial performance has also been notable.

Earlier this year, the company reported earnings before interest and tax of Sh139.9 billion for the period ending March 31, 2024.

At the group level, which includes investments in Safaricom Ethiopia, the company achieved an EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) of Sh94.9 billion, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 3.5 per cent.

This performance exceeded market expectations, surpassing the guidance range of Sh129 billion to Sh132 billion.

Safaricom attributed its success to strategies focused on customer segmentation, digitisation in the public sector, and investments in new technologies.

Going further, Safaricom has contributed Sh983 billion to the Kenyan economy in the last financial year, creating 1,283,329 jobs, according to its 13th Sustainable Business Report.

The report titled ‘Accelerating Digital Inclusion’, highlights the company's transformative impact on Kenyan society as it transitions to becoming Africa's leading purpose-led technology company by 2030.

The report reveals that Safaricom's economic contribution through its operations amounted to Sh562.2 billion, while M-Pesa's social value stood at Sh348 billion.

M-Pesa continues to play a vital role in transforming lives by positively impacting customers, agents, and dealers.

It also stated that Safaricom has reached over 8 million Kenyans, while it has also increased women in leadership roles to 42.4 per cent through its foundations.
