KCB delay Gor Mahia party as they hold them hostage in Murang'a

Gor Mahia will have to wait for three more days to secure the 2023/24 FKF Premier League title after battling to a goalless draw with KCB in a match that was played at the Sebastian Park in Murang'a.

Victory would have seen the 20-time league champions get one-hand on the title as it would have put on them on 66 points, twelve more than second-placed Kenya Police who, with four rounds left to play, cannot amass more than 66 points.

Gor Mahia can now secure the league title with victory over Muhoroni Youth on Sunday.

Before the match, Gor Mahia coach Jonathan McKinstry had stated his eagerness to win against KCB as the Bankers have denied him victory in all the matches Gor Mahia has played against them during his time as K'Ogalo's coach.

"We approach this match with confidence because we have won four league matches in a row. However, KCB has been a thorn in our flesh and we have beaten them since we arrived. We would like to get that monkey off our back," the Northern Irish coach said.

Indeed, before today's encounter, KCB had been unbeaten against Gor Mahia in three consecutive league matches and that stretch has now extended to four games following Thursday's draw.

With the result, the Bankers are now 11th with 37 points.

Sunday's match against Gor Mahia will be McKinstry last as K'Ogalo's coach as after that he will leave the country to take over as the new coach of the Gambian national football team.

McKinstry took over as Gor Mahia's coach on July 29, 2022 and is set to leave the club having guided them to two league titles as well as victory in the 2023-24 FKF Charity Shield.
