Over 310,000 students placed in universities, colleges and TVETs in 2025 KUCCPS results
Education CS Julius Ogamba disclosed that out of the 244,563 candidates who qualified for degree programmes, 201,695 applied for placement to various levels.
Following the release of the 2025 Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) results, over 310,000 students have secured placements in universities, colleges, and other tertiary institutions across the country.
On Tuesday, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba confirmed that 310,502 students had been successfully placed in various programmes across public and private universities, national polytechnics, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, and teacher training colleges.

Ogamba disclosed that out of the 244,563 candidates who qualified for degree programmes, 201,695 applied for placement to various levels.
“The majority of applicants were drawn from the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohort,” he said.
A total of 962,512 candidates sat the 2024 KCSE examination, with 246,391 attaining the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above, translating to 25.3 per cent of the total candidates. From this group, 194,372 were placed in degree programmes.
Teacher training
In teacher training, Ogamba announced that 20,786 applications were received for diploma teaching courses. Of these, 11,636 candidates secured slots, including 10,800 placed in the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) and 836 in the Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE). The capacity for the DSTE programme was listed at 2,735.
“In addition to this, a further 836 applicants have been placed for a diploma in secondary teacher education with a capacity of 2,735,” the CS said.
He also revealed that most students had an interest in medical-related courses, especially at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC). A total of 52,725 candidates applied for KMTC programmes, despite the college having a capacity of only 34,048.
“Most of the KMTC applicants sought diplomas and certificates in nursing, which attracted more than 27,000 applications,” Ogamba said.
Other popular KMTC courses included clinical medicine and surgery, medical emergency technician, and community health.
Ogamba further highlighted a notable development in the 2025 cycle, the introduction of a Diploma in Law offered by the Kenya School of Law, which had 500 slots.
“A positive development was the introduction of the Kenya School of Law with a diploma. The law programme received overwhelming interest, and all slots were filled,” he said.
In the TVET category, 93,207 applicants sought placement in various technical programmes. According to the CS, most of these applicants have already been placed.
How to check your placement
KUCCPS has urged candidates to check their placement results through its online student portal or via SMS.

2. Click on “Student’s Portal” or go directly to: https://students.kuccps.net/login/
3. Log in using:
• KCSE Index Number
• KCSE Examination Year (e.g., 2024)
• Password (KCPE index number or birth certificate number)
4. View your institution and programme placement details
Via SMS:
1. Open your SMS app
2. Send your KCSE Index Number (starting with the year and without spaces) to 20842
3. You will receive a reply with your placement institution and course
“The 2025 Placement Results are out! Check your placement now by visiting http://students.kuccps.net,” KUCCPS stated in an advisory.
The KUCCPS application process for 2025 began on March 28, with an initial deadline of April 21, later extended by a week.
To accommodate more candidates, the application system was reopened for a second revision of courses between May 18 and May 27, targeting those who had not applied or failed to secure placement in the initial round that ended on April 30.
The placement window officially closed on June 7, 2025, bringing the application cycle to a close.
The placement process, which considers KCSE performance, programme choices, institutional capacity, and equity criteria, aims to ensure a fair and merit-based transition into higher education and training.
