Motorists warned of temporary closure on Nairobi’s Jogoo and Nyasa roads for drainage upgrade
In a notice issued on Monday, KURA announced that the temporary road closure will begin at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025, and continue until 11:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025.
Motorists using Jogoo Road and Nyasa Road in Nairobi should brace for a four-day traffic disruption as the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) carries out culvert installation works to enhance the urban drainage system.

The authority has urged motorists and the public to exercise caution and follow all traffic directions issued during the period.
“Kenya Urban Roads Authority seeks to inform the general public of a temporary traffic disruption along Jogoo Road and Nyasa Road from 10:00 PM on Friday, 18th July 2025 to 11:00 PM on Monday, 21st July 2025,” read the notice.
The authority explained that the traffic disruption is necessary to allow for the installation of a culvert, part of ongoing efforts to upgrade road infrastructure and improve drainage systems in Nairobi.
Minimal inconvenience
KURA assured the public that safety and minimising inconvenience remain top priorities throughout the project.
To manage the expected disruption, KURA said it has deployed police officers and traffic marshals to the affected areas to guide motorists and help ease traffic flow along alternative routes.
“Motorists are advised to exercise caution when approaching the affected section and to follow all road signs provided. Police officers and traffic marshals will be on site to ensure a smooth flow of traffic," the Authority said.
The authority urged the public to stay informed through its official communication channels and to report any issues experienced during the construction period.
It emphasised that with the capital city’s rapid growth, such infrastructure upgrades are essential for improving mobility and ensuring safety on the city's roads, aligning with its mission to provide quality and sustainable urban transport solutions.
Residents along Jogoo Road have long voiced concerns over the deteriorating condition of the route, which becomes significantly worse during periods of heavy rainfall.
Pedestrians, motorists, and local business owners frequently face disruptions caused by flooded road sections and stagnant water, which hamper movement. The poor road conditions have also worsened traffic congestion and forced many private vehicle owners to incur high repair costs due to damage from waterlogged surfaces.
