KNH CEO William Sigilai said the patient was discovered dead at around 2:00 pm, shortly after visiting hours, with his body lying in blood-soaked beddings.
Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has confirmed the death of a male patient who was found lifeless inside one of its wards on Thursday afternoon.
In a statement, KNH CEO William Sigilai said the patient was discovered dead at around 2:00 pm, shortly after visiting hours, with his body lying in blood-soaked beddings.

“Kenyatta National Hospital has confirmed an incident regarding the tragic death of a patient,” Sigilai said.
The hospital said the matter has since been reported to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other government security agencies.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the patient’s family during this difficult time. We will provide updates as more information is availed,” Sigilai added.
This latest death marks the second such incident reported at KNH this year.
On February 7, 2025, Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni, 39, was found dead on a hospital bed with a slit throat. An autopsy revealed that his neck wound, about three centimetres deep, caused his death. Pathologists also noted that his body had blisters on the back, suggesting prolonged immobility.
Despite months of investigations, police say there is no evidence that an outsider accessed the ward in Kinyua’s case. Detectives interrogated a patient who had shared the ward with Kinyua, collected DNA swabs, and questioned KNH nurses and security officers.
CCTV footage from Ward 7B alleys was also retrieved, as no cameras are installed inside patient rooms for privacy reasons.
The hospital clarified that all footage from the ward’s corridors was handed over to investigators.
The current death also revives memories of a 2015 murder at the facility. On November 8, 2015, Cosmas Mutunga Kenyatta, 42, was found murdered inside Ward 8C. His body bore multiple stab wounds, one eye had been gouged out, and he had a fractured skull and a shattered leg.
Mutunga, a father of four who had been admitted for cancer treatment, was killed hours after his family visited and shortly after donating blood for his treatment.
A postmortem report at the time revealed he had been stabbed 42 times in what police described as a “brutal and violent attack.” Investigators blamed serious security lapses for the murder.
