Omar aims to impart wisdom to future generations through his forthcoming book, which delves into his tenure under three different Kenyan Presidents.

Former Administration Police Training College Commandant, Omar Shurie, is gearing up to unveil his memoir detailing his extensive 45-year career in service.

Omar, who joined the police force in 1974, embarked on a journey that saw him rise from the rank of constable to the high position of Senior Assistant Inspector General of the National Police Service.

Hailing from Garissa County, Omar's career started in Mandera where he was posted immediately after completing training, before being summoned back to the Administration Police Training College.

He remained dedicated to his duties, serving in various capacities until his retirement in 2019.

Now, drawing from his wealth of experience, Omar aims to impart wisdom to future generations through his forthcoming book, which delves into his tenure under three different Kenyan Presidents.

"I want the younger generation to use this book as a reference and get to know my experience," remarked Omar.

Scheduled to be launched soon by the current Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Internal Security and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, the book titled "Beyond the Call of Duty" promises to offer insights into Omar's journey and the lessons learned along the way.

Patriotism

One of the key chapters in the book focuses on fostering ownership and commitment in the workplace, particularly emphasising the importance of diligence and patriotism.

Omar Shurie's book titled "Beyond the Call of Duty" promises to offer insights into Omar's journey and the lessons learned along the way.

"I wanted to tell Kenyans and the security men building the ownership and commitment to work," explained Omar.

Reflecting on his upbringing in the nomadic lifestyle of Garissa's Hagar Dera area, Omar recounted his humble beginnings, raised by a hardworking mother who instilled in him the values of resilience and dedication.

He attributes his success to her perseverance and the sacrifices made to provide him with an education.

In addition to sharing personal anecdotes, Omar advocates for community policing as a vital component of national security, underscoring its effectiveness in fostering safer communities.

Despite his accomplishments, his tenure was not without challenges. Accusations, including allegations of police manipulating election forms and the tragic Baragoi operation resulting in the loss of over 40 policemen, tested his leadership.

Addressing these issues, Omar maintains his innocence, asserting that he was not involved in the incidents in question.

Through "Beyond the Call of Duty," he aims to provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of his life as a top police commander, navigating through controversies and striving for excellence in service to his country.
