One suspect arrested as police seize 423 kilos of cannabis, explosives in Kuria raid

A 23-year-old woman, Evelyne Bhoke, who was arrested at the scene and placed in custody had told authorities that the godown belonged to her brother-in-law, Joseph Merengo, who is now under investigation.
A police raid in Kuria West Sub-County has led to the seizure of narcotics and explosives, with one suspect arrested.
Acting on a tip-off, officers from Isebania Police Station raided a godown store in Taraqwiti Village, approximately four kilometres northeast of the station.

During the search, they recovered 14 full sacks and two smaller sacks of dried plant material they suspected to be cannabis sativa, weighing 423 kilograms and valued at Sh 12.69 million.
According to the Migori Police Commander Francis Nguli, the house had been under surveillance for quite some time, and the occupant was nabbed during the morning operations.
Additionally, police found 23 cartons of explosives used in mining, four 200kg drums of cyanide, and eight rolls of detonating wire, whose value is yet to be determined.
"The said suspect has informed the police that the said godown belongs to her brother-in-law," police said.

Kuria West Deputy County Commissioner, Andrew Mwiti urged residents of Isebania to assist the police in addressing the challenges of illegal business along the border.
Mwiti disclosed that they have been working closely with the security team from Tanzania in addressing the illegal business along the Isebania-Sirare border.
The case has been handed over to the Preventive and Combating of Crime (PBC) unit and the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Migori for further investigations.
