Juma appeared in court alongside William Imoli, Douglas Wachiri Wambugu and David Kagame.
Through the prosecuting counsel, the police requested the court to allow the detention of the suspects at different police stations, namely Ruaraka, Muthaiga, Capital Hill, and Kilimani, to facilitate the completion of investigations.
The prosecution also applied for a court order to confiscate the suspects' mobile phones for forensic examination.
In response, the suspects requested additional time to secure legal representation.
Over the weekend, the suspects were arrested in connection with Were’s fatal shooting.
In a statement issued on Sunday, National Police Service (NPS) Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said the arrests followed a swift operation based on previously gathered leads, which placed the suspects at the crime scene.
"Officers from the National Police Service swiftly conducted an operation and successfully arrested four suspects who had been positively placed at the crime scene," Nyaga said.
Police have also recovered crucial evidence believed to be linked to the crime, as well as the perpetrators.
The NPS further stated that investigators have identified ties between some of the arrested individuals and the Mjahidin gang, which is suspected of involvement in a series of armed robberies in Nairobi's Eastlands area.
"NPS investigators and the technical team are working tirelessly, leveraging their expertise, to establish the motive behind the fatal shooting and to bring all those involved to justice," said Nyaga.
Were was gunned down last week at a traffic stop in Nairobi. His shooting to death has sparked calls for swift justice and prompted concerns about rising urban insecurity.
