Kindiki, Murkomen fight back against petition to remove them from Roll of Advocates

In June, Nairobi-based advocate Kepha Ojijo filed a motion seeking the removal of Kindiki and Murkomen from the Roll of Advocates, citing their alleged role in state violence during protests.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen are resisting a bid to strike them from the Roll of Advocates.
In a letter dated July 15, through lawyer Cecil Miller, the two senior government officers are asking the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) to furnish them with a copy of a complaint filed by Kepha Ojijo to enable them to respond adequately.

In the petition to remove Kindiki and Murkomen from the Roll of Advocates, the petitioner claims the two have gone against the oath administered to lawyers at the entry point.
When lawyers are being admitted to the Roll of Advocates, they swear before the Chief Justice and God that they will observe the law at all times and defend rights and justice at all costs.
The lawyer states that two leaders had learned via social media reports that a formal complaint had been lodged against them at the LSK.
"We have been retained to represent the Deputy President, Prof Kithure Abraham Kindiki and Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen with instructions to write to you... Kindly provide us with copies of the complaint," reads part of the letter addressed to the LSK.
In June, Nairobi-based advocate Kepha Ojijo filed a motion seeking the removal of Kindiki and Murkomen from the Roll of Advocates, citing their alleged role in state violence during protests.
Ojijo accuses the two of gross misconduct and violations of the Advocates' Code of Conduct during their tenure as Cabinet Secretaries in charge of Interior and National Administration.
He argues that the two, while serving in powerful security dockets, presided over police operations that led to deaths, injuries, abductions, and disappearances of young protesters during the nationwide Gen Z demonstrations in 2024 and 2025.
