Multiple appointments announced across major public institutions

Several key appointments and reappointments in various state agencies and educational institutions took effect from August 8, 2025, as announced through official gazette notices signed by respective Cabinet Secretaries.

In the education sector, Julius Migos Ogamba, Cabinet Secretary for Education, reappointed Habat Sheikh Abdi as the non-executive chairperson of the Kenya Institute of Special Education for a three-year term starting August 8, 2025.

Similarly, Prof Stanley Khainga was appointed non-executive chairperson of the Council of Kaimosi Friends University College for the same duration. At Rongo University, Jones Musyoki Kimeu (CPA) was appointed as a Council member, replacing Willy Kioko Malile.

In the transport sector, Alvin Habwe was reappointed to serve another three-year term as a member of the Kenya Railways Corporation Board of Directors.

The appointment was signed off by the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Davis Chirchir.

Water resource management agencies also saw significant changes. Eric Murithi Mugaa, Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, reappointed several board members across multiple water works development agencies.

For the Coast Water Works Development Agency, Hafswa Abdalla Dele, Judith Wabosha Mwamburi, and Mohamed Masoud Mwahima were reappointed for three years, effective August 5, 2025.

The Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency retained Millicent Oduor Olando and Mwita Maisoro, while North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency reappointed Dr. Sammy Letema and David Kipchirchir Kimetto, all for similar three-year terms beginning August 8.

Further appointments by the same ministry include Stephen Kipkebut and Stellah Karimi Gituma to the Regional Centre on Groundwater Resources Education, Training and Research in Eastern Africa.

The Tana Water Works Development Agency welcomed new board members Hared Singira and Anastacia Nyagaki Njoroge.

Additionally, Beatrice Mbete Musyoki was appointed to the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency board.

In the agricultural sector, Mutahi Kagwe, Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, appointed Musa Abdullahi Sheikh (Engineer) as a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Commodities Fund starting August 8, 2025.

The Communications Authority also experienced changes. William Kabogo Gitau, Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, revoked the appointment of Dr.

Musangi Mutua as a board member, effective August 8, 2025.

These appointments are in line with powers conferred by relevant laws in their respective sectors: the Education (Kenya Institute of Special Education) Order and the Universities Act govern the education appointments; the Kenya Railways Corporation Act covers the transport sector; the Water Act guides appointments in water management agencies; the Crops Act relates to the agricultural sector; and the Kenya Information and Communications Act oversees changes in the communications sector.
