Senegal President Diomaye Faye to serve as Chief Guest during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kitui

During his visit, Faye will also hold bilateral talks with President Ruto at State House, Nairobi, focusing on strengthening political, economic, and Pan-African cooperation between the two nations.

Senegal's President Bassirou Diomaye Faye arrived in Kenya on Sunday from Kigali ahead of Monday's Mashujaa Day celebrations, where he will serve as Chief Guest at the invitation of President William Ruto.

This marks Faye's first state visit to Kenya since assuming office.

He is expected to join national celebrations honouring Kenya's heroes — individuals who played pivotal roles in shaping the country's independence and modern history.

"This visit is part of the ongoing strengthening of friendship and cooperation ties between Senegal and Kenya, two nations united by a common vision of a united, sovereign Africa firmly committed to progress," the Senegalese Presidency said in a statement.

Faye arrived as Kenya bid farewell to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was laid to rest in Bondo on Sunday with full military honours, including a 17-gun salute rendered by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

During his visit, Faye will also hold bilateral talks with President Ruto at State House, Nairobi, focusing on strengthening political, economic, and Pan-African cooperation between the two nations.

The Mashujaa Day celebrations will proceed as scheduled at the Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County, marking a significant convergence of national reflection and continental solidarity.

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has urged Kenyans to turn up in large numbers, saying the day will also serve as a tribute to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“The government calls upon all Kenyans to turn out in great numbers for Mashujaa Day 2025. Let us come together as one people to celebrate the enduring legacy of the Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga and all our mashujaa,” Mwaura said.
