CS Kindiki has opened the sub-county headquarters and installed the first deputy county commissioner, ahead of the appointment of other government officials.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has officially operationalised the new Shanta Abak Sub-county in Garissa County, opening its headquarters and installing the first deputy county commissioner.

Kindiki announced Tuesday that the government is also set to post other government officials to the sub-county to bring state services closer to residents.

"We want to bring services closer to the people. We have today posted the sub-county deputy county commissioner. We will post other officials, like the immigration and education officers," he told a ceremony that Garissa Governor Nathif Jamah and other county officials attended.

Kindiki thanked Garissa's leaders for working closely with the national government to ensure the operationalisation of the new sub-county. He also announced that the government was ready to operationalise the new Banane Sub-county.

"The residents [and county officials] only need to agree on the location of the sub-county headquarters," he said at Shanta Abak Town in Lagdera Constituency.

The CS promised to work closely with local leaders in solving the border conflict between Isiolo and Garissa counties.

Regarding requests by Garissa's leaders on difficulties residents face acquiring passports and national identification cards, Kindiki announced that President William Ruto will soon tour the county to officially open the Garissa immigration offices.

"The President will soon be here to announce new ways of acquiring identification cards and for the opening of the newly built immigration offices in Garissa town," he said.

The minister further reiterated the government's commitment to the fight against terrorism in northern Kenya by heavily investing in intelligence and working together with the residents and leaders.

Kindiki explained that the new administrative units will not only bring services to the people but also strengthen the war on terror and violent extremism in Northern Kenya.

"Our officers in the frontline continue to register crucial successes against terror threats through the use of technology, modern equipment and intelligence-led kinetic operations," he said, noting that the government continues to enhance the operational capabilities of all security agencies and to train more special forces to assure greater outcomes.

Governor Jama requested Kindiki to ensure the quick operationalisation of Banane Sub-county.

"We also want the launch of Banane, which is incomplete," he said.

Senator Abdul Haji and MPs Udgoon Siyad (woman representative), and Abdikadir Hussein Mohamed (Lagdera), members of county assembly and communtiy leaders were also present.
