Kindiki announces stringent measures in new security management plans

Under the directives issued by the Interior Ministry, every county security team is mandated to implement comprehensive security measures, including preventive strategies and timely law enforcement actions.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has announced stringent measures to hold individual commanders of security agencies accountable for any breaches within their respective jurisdictions.

Speaking on Friday at Kitui Town after a situational review with Kitui County Security and Intelligence Heads, Prof. Kindiki emphasised the importance of adopting and implementing measurable security management plans at the county level.

He thus stated that he would be lenient on commanders who demonstrate proactiveness in averting security lapses.

"The government will hold every commander of a security agency across Kenya individually accountable for security breaches within their jurisdictions, except where it is demonstrable that they have taken reasonable measures to avert or mitigate the breach," stated Prof. Kindiki, highlighting the government's commitment to ensuring effective command and control in maintaining law and order.

This move comes amidst ongoing nationwide law enforcement efforts targeting illicit substances and substances harmful to public health.

"In the ongoing nationwide law enforcement programme against killer brews, narcotic drugs, and psychotropic substances, 258 suspects have been arrested and arraigned, illicit alcohol outlets closed, 15 kg of bhang seized, and 22 non-compliant pharmacies and 19 non-compliant agro vets shut down," Prof. Kindiki announced, underscoring the government's commitment to combating illicit activities affecting communities.

The CS toured Kitui hours after visiting Embu and Tharaka Nithi counties where he concluded a sitting with the County Security Heads and agreed on the plan for enforcement of the anti-illicit alcohol and anti-narcotics measures.

Other strategies adopted targeted the reduction of crime, maintenance of law and order, monitoring and evaluation as well as a schedule for reporting offences.

The Ministry also identified addressing longstanding disputes between farmers and herders and resolving administrative boundary disputes as key deliverable areas.

Prof Kindiki stressed the importance of prioritising resolution efforts to promote peaceful coexistence and enhance community security.
