KNEC issues new guidelines for private KCSE candidates
On the new guidelines, signed by the acting CEO, Dr David W Jengere, the national examination body announced that all candidates would sit for the examination in their respective county headquarters.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has released new guidelines on the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations for private candidates.
In a statement, KNEC said the review was a result of challenges experienced in previous years.

" The Kenya National Examinations Council(KNEC) has reviewed the guidelines on administration of the KCSE examination to the private candidates owing to the challenges experienced in the previous years," reads the statement.
On the new guidelines, signed by the acting CEO, Dr David W Jengere, the national examination body announced that all candidates would sit for the examination in their respective county headquarters.
However, candidates who registered for group IV subjects with the project's component were advised to continue undertaking their projects in their respective sub-counties as has been the practice.
KNEC classified the group as individuals who enrolled in Art Design (442), Agriculture (443), Woodwork (444), Metalwork (445), Building Construction (446), and Computer Studies (451).
The Council further stated that Sub County Directors of Education(SCDE) will be responsible for ensuring that the candidates successfully undertake their projects.
"The Sub County Directors of Education will therefore remain responsible for ensuring that the candidates undertake the projects, that the scores are uploaded within the stipulated timeframes, and that all documents are submitted to KNEC," said the examinations council.
KNEC assured the private candidates that the County Directors of Education and Sub County Directors shall put in place all the necessary logistics, including identifying appropriate venues where they will sit for their examination.
In the statement, copied to the Principal Secretary, State Department for Basic Education, Director, Quality Assurance and Standards, and Regional Directors, KNEC issued directives to the county and sub-county director to avail information on the host centre by July 30, 2024.
The examination council exempted the prison centres where inmates were registered for the KCSE exam from the above guidelines.
