Kenyans no longer need appointments for passport collection - Immigration Department

The Directorate of Immigration Services has announced a major overhaul in its passport collection procedures, making it easier for Kenyans to retrieve their passports.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Immigration Department revealed that the requirement to book appointments via the eCitizen platform will no longer be required.

In the new system, applicants will be able to collect their passports without prior appointment.

“We have simplified the process of passport delivery. Applicants are no longer required to book an appointment for passport collection. The Directorate of Immigration Services is listening and is open to all emerging issues,” the Department said.

The department said it has introduced new communication channels to facilitate direct contact for passport collection. These include their Twitter handle, @ImmigrationDept, email at [email protected], and WhatsApp at +254 796 374 902.

Additionally, the Immigration Department said it has established a dedicated team to swiftly address concerns raised through social media.

Opportunities abroad

Meanwhile, President William Ruto has announced that Kenyan youth seeking employment abroad will benefit from expedited passport processing and government-funded flights.

Speaking on Sunday after a church service in Taita Taveta, he stated that the government has identified over 400,000 job opportunities overseas. He urged Kenyans to apply through the State Department of Labour’s online directory.

He asked the Members of Parliament to identify the unemployed youths and help them through the application processes.

“I want the MPs to listen to me, I have done my part by seeking jobs abroad. I have planned that anyone seeking to go out for employment is given their passport within one week, and they will not incur the costs for the flight. The company they are going to work for will sponsor the flights,” Ruto said.

According to the Head of State, the Ministry of Labour will oversee the process until the youths are flown to take up the jobs. He noted over 1,000 Kenyans leave the country every week for the greener pastures overseas.
