I'm a statement released Saturday morning, the authority said the trend that media reports show is fast rising amongst the youth leads to life threatening complications.

"With the Heightened rate of absorption, alcoholic beverages may lead to sudden unconsciousness, respiratory failure or death in users," the statement signed by CEO Dr Anthony Omerikwa states.

Other complications resulting from that mode of consumption include; alcohol poisoning which the authority notes manifests in the form of confusion, vomiting, seizures, slow or irregular breathing, hypothermia or unconsciousness.

The rectum and colon may also be damaged as they come into contact with alcohol leading to severe health problems such as ulcers and rectal bleeding.

It could also lead to inflammation and tears in the mucosal lining and hepatitis, a lack of control over dosage, severe dehydration, impaired judgement and faster addiction as consumption of alcohol in that manner is more potent and a faster gateway to alcohol use disorder.

The authority said that mode of consumption does not allow the body to metabolise and regulate intake leading to the effects explained.
