President William Ruto has directed Cabinet Secretary for Housing Alice Wahome to build more hostels to accommodate 3,000 extra recruits, with an expected increase to 20,000 next year.

During the Kenya National Youth Service (NYS) passing out procession in Gilgil on Monday, President Ruto emphasised the government's commitment to expanding possibilities for young people through NYS training.

"I have already instructed the Ministry of Housing to provide additional hostels for 3,000 extra recruits at the National Youth Service," stated the president. He also asked the Ministry to create housing for NYS employees, ensuring that it fulfils the same standards as those offered for other services.

The government has developed the Climate Works Mtaani Initiative to assist with the impending intake, which will include some of the recruits in environmental initiatives. "We are making sure as a government that more young people benefit from this training and the vocational skills that come with it," emphasised Ruto.

President Ruto also announced intentions to recruit 200 additional cadet officers and 500 private officers to assist the NYS's expanding operations. The new hostels will be fully equipped to accommodate the 3,000 more recruits, as well as the essential utilities.

Addressing the nearly 15,000 recent graduates, the President urged them to "stay the course and pursue the path of success by upholding the values that have brought them this far," emphasising the importance of their dedication and persistence.
