State to inspect development projects countrywide following claims of abandonment

By |

The announcement follows a series of exposés by lawyer-turned-activist Morara Kebaso, who has independently documented numerous incomplete or abandoned government projects.

The government has announced plans to conduct a nationwide review of state-led development projects in response to growing concerns over project abandonment and corruption.

In a press briefing on Thursday, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura announced multiple reports exposing incomplete or stalled projects.

Mwaura said officials from the Office of the President would oversee the inspection, which will assess the progress of development initiatives in all regions.

“The government has achieved much, but there is often confusion surrounding its efforts. My office, together with the President's office, will visit even the most remote areas,” he said.

He reiterated that the primary objective of the inspections is to ensure that projects, as outlined in official documents, are being implemented as planned.

“We will ensure that what is on paper and discussed here in Nairobi is actually happening on the ground. There are claims that the reality on the ground differs from the official narrative, and we must address this perception,” Mwaura said.

The announcement follows a series of exposés by lawyer-turned-activist Morara Kebaso, who has independently documented numerous incomplete or abandoned government projects.

Kebaso has been highly critical of President William Ruto's administration, accusing it of failing to initiate new projects, allowing ongoing ones to stall, or completing them with reports of “massive looting” of public funds.

Kebaso has personally visited at least 18 counties to verify the status of government projects, many of which were initiated during Ruto's tenure as Deputy President in former president Uhuru Kenyatta-led government.

Despite facing threats and intimidation, Kebaso has pledged to continue his efforts, gaining widespread public support for his advocacy on government accountability.

His campaign has gathered momentum, with many Kenyans viewing him as a symbol of transparency in the face of alleged government failures.

Recently, he acquired a modified Toyota Landcruiser Prado TX for his civic education campaign. On Wednesday, he shared photos of the vehicle on his social media platforms and asked for leads to a graphic designer to brand it.

“Graphic designers, it is your time to do the Lord’s work. We have acquired a vehicle to mount the public address system. We need a designer for branding and wrapping,” he said.
