The 10 shortlisted candidates were selected out of the 45 applications for the chairperson.

The selection panel for the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) has shortlisted 10 candidates for the position of chairperson and 45 candidates for the roles of two members.

This was announced on Tuesday in a notice by Edwin Makori, who chairs the selection panel.

"In accordance with the Commission on Administrative Justice Act (Cap. 7J), the Selection Panel has published the names and qualifications of all applicants as well as the shortlisted candidates for both positions. This information will also be made available in The Kenya Gazette," reads the notice.

The 10 shortlisted candidates were selected out of the 45 applications for the chairperson.

Among the candidates for the chairperson’s position are 32 males and 13 females, including two persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Those in the race to become the next CAJ chairperson include Maj. (Rtd) John Kamunya Karanja, Harun Maalim Hassan, Anne Wambeti Ireri, Morris Kiwinda Mbondenyi, Charles Orinda Dulo, Doreen Nkatha Muthaura, Erick K'omolo, Eric Nyongesa Wafula, Chesang Kigen and Judith Nayiai Ramaita Pareno.

The shortlisted candidates for the chairperson’s position will be interviewed on October 17, 2024.

The applications for the member positions were 278, which included 179 males and 99 females, with 13 PWDs represented for the two member roles.

For the two members of the commission, interviews will be conducted for four days between October 22 to October 24, 2024.

On August 29, 2024, President William Ruto formed selection panels for the recruitment of chairpersons and members of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), the CAJ, the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPΟΑ).

Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said the selection panels will oversee the recruitment of new nominees.

"These selection panels were appointed in accordance with nominations from professional bodies, organisations, institutions, and State Offices that constitute the statutory membership of selection panels for recruitment to the specific Constitutional Commissions and Independent Offices," he said.

The public service boss noted that the selection panels will ensure a smooth transition process as state officers appointed to serve in the four constitutional commissions and offices for six years come to an end.
