Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has outlined the hefty financial and logistical demands Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah might face as he prepares to vie for the presidency in the 2027 elections.
This comes after Omtatah announced the formation of a 10-member Presidential Exploratory Committee to assess his viability as a candidate for the presidency in 2027.

Speaking on Saturday, November 23, Omtatah stated that the committee would engage the public and propose solutions to the country's pressing challenges.
"We are at a pivotal moment in our nation's history, and the call to serve has never been more urgent. After careful consideration and consultations with trusted advisors, community leaders, and citizens from all walks of life, I am pleased to announce the formation of a Presidential Exploratory Committee," Omtatah said.
He added that the committee’s primary role would be to strategise for the campaign while determining how to address critical national issues.
"This committee will thoroughly assess the viability of my candidacy for the 2027 presidential election. Its primary focus will be to engage with the public, gather input on the most pressing challenges facing our nation, and determine how best to address these issues with bold and innovative leadership," he explained.
Grassroots network
In response, Senator Cherargei warned Omtatah about the challenges ahead, emphasising the need for significant financial resources and grassroots networks to mount a competitive campaign.
"While I wish you well in your presidential bid, there are a few things you need to be aware of. To run a successful presidential campaign, you need a minimum of Sh7 billion," Cherargei said on X.
He also noted the importance of having a solid voting bloc and extensive grassroots networks, which he claimed Omtatah might struggle to build due to his limited social media presence.
Cherargei further highlighted the competition Omtatah would face, particularly from President William Ruto, who he said had "outwitted and outsmarted the government candidate Raila Odinga in the 2022 General Elections."
Omtatah joins a growing list of political figures eyeing the presidency, including Fred Matiang’i, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, and incumbent President Ruto.
