Gor Mahia blames Shabana FC for chaos at Gusii Stadium
Gor Mahia has held Shabana FC responsible for the stampede and fan unrest that disrupted their FKF Premier League match in Kisii, accusing the hosts of failing to provide adequate security.
Gor Mahia FC has blamed Shabana FC for the chaotic scenes that marred their FKF Premier League clash at Gusii Stadium on Sunday, which ended in a stampede and left several fans injured.
In a statement on Monday, Gor Mahia accused Shabana - the home team - of failing to implement sufficient security measures to ensure the match proceeded safely.

"It is the duty of the home team to ensure adequate safety arrangements are made. In this case, Shabana FC failed to present reasonable hosting and security plans to the Local Organising Committee (LCC). For a high-risk match like this, they should have considered changing the venue," the club stated.
Gor further described the disruption as “premeditated” and criticised Shabana for allowing fans to invade the pitch and hurl objects, which led to the match being stopped multiple times.
"Shabana FC seriously violated hosting protocols. Home teams are responsible for preventing pitch invasions and the throwing of dangerous objects such as bottles and missiles," the club added. "The game had to be halted five times."
The club also turned its criticism toward the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), alleging that the match went ahead despite warnings from local police.
"Despite the OCPD advising against continuing due to safety concerns, the Commissioner insisted he had received instructions from FKF to proceed at all costs," the statement read. "This raises a key question — how can someone in Nairobi overrule on-ground security assessments?"
Gor Mahia concluded by calling the incident a national embarrassment, especially given the match was being broadcast live.
"It was shameful to see a football match descend into chaos in front of a live audience."
