“The Government upholds the rule of law and will ensure that any criminal acts are addressed firmly and in accordance with the law,” said Mudavadi on Thursday.
At the same time, the Prime Cabinet Secretary highlighted a decline in general crime rates, including offences such as robbery, break-ins, stock theft, vehicle theft, drug-related crimes, and traffic offences.
“As we approach the festive season and prepare for the opportunities and challenges of the coming year, the Ministry of Interior and National Administration reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Kenyans and residents within our borders,” he said.
Mudavadi urged citizens to collaborate with law enforcement agencies, noting that reporting criminal activities, suspicious behaviour, and providing relevant information to local authorities can significantly contribute to building a safer society.
Referring to the events of June this year, when protests against the 2024 Finance Bill turned violent, the CS noted that while the demonstrations initially represented a lawful exercise of democratic rights, they were later infiltrated by criminal elements, leading to disruptions, threats to key government installations, and breaches of public peace.
“We deeply regret the loss of lives and injuries sustained during this period, both among civilians and security personnel. These losses are a solemn reminder of the collective need for vigilance and restraint,” Mudavadi said.
He assured the public that all arrests would be conducted within the confines of the law, emphasising the Government’s commitment to justice and due process.
“Any officer found contravening these principles will be held accountable,” he added.
