Court allows police to detain four officers over shooting of colleague in Naivasha
Orwa told the court that preliminary investigations suggest possible interference with the crime scene. It is alleged that the suspects attempted to stage the incident as a suicide by placing the deceased's firearm in his hand, pointing it toward his chest, where he was shot.
A Naivasha court has allowed police to detain four officers for 10 days to facilitate investigations into the fatal shooting of their colleague, Corporal Hassan Lolkidid, in an incident that occurred at Maai Mahiu Township earlier this week.
The officers — Jim Murithi, Emmanuel Sang, Antony Wangombe, and Joshua Keter — all attached to the Maai Mahiu Police Station, were presented before the Chief Magistrate's Court in Naivasha on Thursday, where the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sought more time to complete investigations.

Chief Magistrate Abdulqadir Lorot ruled that 10 days were enough to hold the officers instead of 21 as prayed by the DCI.
In an application filed by Corporal Peter Orwa, the investigating officer from DCI Naivasha, the court heard that the four were with the deceased on the night of October 29, 2025, when he was fatally shot at around 1:30 am at Msikiti area in Maai Mahiu Township.
According to the affidavit filed in court, the officers had accompanied Cpl. Lolkidid to a crime scene where a motor vehicle, registration number KDU 614G, Isuzu FRR, was reportedly being offloaded with tyres and hardware goods suspected to have been stolen.
When the officers challenged the suspects at the scene, the offloaders fled, and moments later, gunshots were heard.
Corporal Lolkidid was later found shot in the chest and died on the spot.
Orwa told the court that preliminary investigations suggest possible interference with the crime scene. It is alleged that the suspects attempted to stage the incident as a suicide by placing the deceased's firearm in his hand, pointing it toward his chest, where he was shot.
"The firearms issued to the suspects on the material night have been confiscated as exhibits and are yet to be forwarded for ballistic analysis," the investigating officer stated.
The weapons are listed as serial numbers 45302279, 4433898-H5468, G4612, and 44333137.
The court also heard that the same suspects are being investigated in connection with a robbery with violence case involving the driver of the said vehicle, who was reportedly kidnapped and remains missing.
The officer argued that releasing the officers at this stage could compromise the investigation, as they might intimidate witnesses or interfere with the forensic process.
He requested the court to grant 21 days to allow the completion of the autopsy, retrieval of the bullet head lodged in the deceased's body for ballistic comparison, and recording of further witness statements.
The prosecution, represented by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) Naivasha, supported the application.
Granting the request, the court directed that the four officers be detained at Naivasha Police Station pending completion of investigations into the suspected murder of their colleague.
