John Gitau Mwangi, 42, was taken into custody by police in Killeen, Texas, after his wife, 37-year-old Esther Gitau, was found dead at their home on Friday, February 21.

A Kenyan man has been arrested in Texas on suspicion of fatally shooting his wife in what authorities believe to be a case of domestic violence.

John Gitau Mwangi, 42, was taken into custody by police in Killeen, Texas, after his wife, 37-year-old Esther Gitau, was found dead at their home on Friday, February 21.

According to a statement from the Killeen Police Department, officers responded to a welfare check at the residence at approximately 7:15 p.m. local time. Upon arrival, they discovered Ms. Gitau suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics at the scene pronounced her dead at 9:29 p.m.

Authorities believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute, though they reassured the public that there was no broader threat to community safety.

Tragically, two young children were present in the home at the time of the incident. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the children were found unharmed and unaware of the fatal events that had taken place.

Following an intensive investigation, detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. Mwangi. He was located and apprehended at Fort Cavazos, the military installation where he was stationed.

Mr. Mwangi is currently being held at the Killeen City Jail, where he faces serious charges that could result in a life sentence or even the death penalty under Texas law. He is expected to be formally charged in the coming days.
