Heavy rains to continue across Kenya in next five days, Met Department says

Kenyans should brace for more downpour as the Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall across several parts of the country over the next five days, from Friday, March 27, to Monday, March 31.
According to the latest weather update, the rains will be widespread, with isolated heavy showers expected in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, Nairobi, North Eastern, and the Coastal region. Parts of South-Eastern Lowlands and Northwestern Kenya will also be affected.

The forecast indicates that afternoon showers and thunderstorms will be common in counties such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot. Night showers are also expected in these areas.
Counties in the South-Eastern Lowlands, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, will also experience similar conditions. However, breaks of sunshine are expected on Monday morning and afternoon.
The forecast also warns that Turkana and Samburu counties will see afternoon showers and thunderstorms from Thursday to Sunday, with rainfall easing early next week.
For Nairobi and Central Kenya, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka, afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the forecast period.
In the North Eastern region, counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo will experience occasional afternoon showers for the first four days, with a shift to drier conditions on Monday, bringing sunny intervals in the afternoon and partly cloudy skies at night.
The coastal region, covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, along with coastal parts of Tana River County, is expected to experience intensified showers both during the day and at night until Sunday.
