Uganda reopens border posts with eastern DR Congo
Uganda has reopened several border crossings with the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), including those near areas controlled by the March 23 Movement (M23) rebel group.
Felix Kulayigye, Uganda’s military spokesperson, told Xinhua by telephone that President Yoweri Museveni had ordered the reopening of the Bunagana, Ishasha and Busanza border posts on Wednesday.

The border posts were closed in late January after the M23 rebels captured Goma, the capital of the DRC’s North Kivu province, according to security authorities.
“It’s true the president last night ordered the reopening of the border posts, and indeed this morning the Bunagana border post was reopened,” said Kulayigye.
Ugandan Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Wednesday evening, instructed all military commanders along the shared border to allow people to move freely and conduct business.
The border opening follows last week’s signing of a peace deal in Washington, in which Rwanda and the DRC agreed to support subsequent peace talks between rebels and the Congolese government and to put an end to the threat of instability.
