Global recognition as DPP Renson Ingonga elected to IAP executive committee in Singapore

Ingonga previously served as President of the Africa Association of Prosecutors (APA) after his election in July 2024 at the association’s 17th Annual Conference in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga has been unanimously elected as a Supernumerary Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP).
The election took place on 9th September 2025 during the IAP’s 30th Annual Conference and General Meeting in Singapore.

Ingonga also serves as President of the Africa Association of Prosecutors (APA) after his election in July 2024 at the association’s 17th Annual Conference in Marrakesh, Morocco. In July 2025, he also chaired the 23rd Commonwealth Heads of Prosecuting Agencies Conference (HOPAC) in Mombasa, Kenya.
Following his election, Ingonga expressed humility and underscored the vital role prosecutors play in the justice system.
“I am humbled by this election and the responsibility that comes with it. Prosecutors play a critical role in the fair administration of justice, and this opportunity allows us to exchange experiences, embrace best practices, and discharge our mandate with integrity, professionalism, and firmness,” he said.
Upholding rule of law
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) thanked the IAP for its confidence in Ingonga’s leadership and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law, fostering international collaboration, and advancing prosecutorial excellence.
The election is a historic milestone for Kenya and Africa, showcasing the continent’s growing influence in international prosecutorial circles. Ingonga’s role on the IAP Executive Committee is expected to strengthen Kenya’s global presence, reinforce its leadership in justice and governance, and help shape prosecutorial practices worldwide.
Ingonga was appointed DPP on 20th September 2023, following his nomination by President William Ruto and approval by the National Assembly. Before that, he served as a Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in charge of the North Eastern region and was an advocate of the High Court.
He holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
