ODM clinches Kasipul, Ugunja MP seats

IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon has condemned acts of violence, intimidation, or disruption reported in isolated areas during the voting process on Thursday.

ODM secured key victories as IEBC declared the victors in the by-elections that were held on Thursday.

Kasipul Constituency By-Election Returning Officer Rebecca Abwaku, early Friday, declared Boyd Were of ODM Party the MP-elect for Kasipul Constituency after garnering 16,819 votes.

Meanwhile, Moses Omondi, also of ODM, won the Ugunja Constituency by-election, securing 9,227 votes.

Moses Omondi of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) wins the Ugunja Constituency by-election, securing 9,227 votes.

Orodi Odhiambo of the Wiper Party came in second with 1,819 votes, while Fredrick Ochiel of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) came third, receiving 1,200 votes.

Philip Nashon Aroko, an Independent candidate, finished second after securing 8,476 votes.

A total of 10 candidates had been cleared to contest the seat.

Former Fafi Ward MCA Hassan Aden Kolosho has reclaimed his seat after winning Thursday’s by-election on a Ford Kenya ticket, months after the courts nullified his earlier victory.

Kolosh was declared the winner by Fafi Constituency IEBC Returning Officer Noor Gedi Arale after securing 1,414 votes, defeating his closest rival, Diriye Ibrahim Maalim of UDA, who garnered 967 votes, while ODM’s Feisal Gedi Mohamed received 859 votes.

The official results were announced shortly before midnight at the Borehole 5 Secondary School tallying centre. A total of 3,264 voters cast their ballots out of 7,050 registered voters, representing a 46.3 per cent turnout.
