Governor Wanga, Magwanga fallout deepens amid impeachment claims
Governor Wanga’s decision to sever ties with her deputy has drawn criticism from sections of Homa Bay residents, including Luo elders, who are calling for unity.
The fallout between Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga and her deputy, Oyugi Magwanga, appears to be worsening following fresh revelations about impeachment plans.
A week after being unceremoniously removed from his additional role as County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture and Livestock, Magwanga has now alleged that the governor is planning to have him impeached from his deputy governor position.

The rift between the two leaders became public after their disagreement during the Kasipul Constituency by-election, won by Boyd Were. It is understood that while Wanga supported Were, her deputy campaigned vigorously for Independent candidate Philip Aroko.
In an interview with NTV, Magwanga claimed that Wanga had sponsored an impeachment motion at the Homa Bay County Assembly to oust him, adding that he was prepared to face it.
“They want to impeach me, and I am calling upon them to bring it. We shall see how it will end,” he said.
The former Kasipul MP further stated that if the impeachment motion against him fails, he will initiate a counter-motion to impeach Governor Wanga.
“Should it fail, I will also initiate mine, because she knows me and I know her,” Magwanga said.
He clarified that the fallout with Governor Wanga began before the Kasipul by-election, when he chose to support Aroko instead of the ODM candidate, Were.
According to Magwanga, tensions escalated during the Devolution Conference hosted in Homa Bay in August, where he claims his office was disrespected.
“You can remember during DevCon, Wanga failed to recognise me but recognised her husband and the Majority Leader. That means I have no role in the County Government,” Magwanga alleged.
Following the by-election, Wanga carried out a cabinet reshuffle that stripped the deputy governor of his Agriculture docket.
Magwanga also claims he has since been denied access to his office. He says the office was locked on December 1, 2025, and blocked by goons.
