Watch: 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium

President William Ruto, together with senior government officials, including his deputy Kithure Kindiki, dignitaries and members of the diplomatic corps, is set to attend.

President William Ruto is on Friday leading the Jamhuri Day celebrations amid pomp and colour at Nyayo Stadium.

The 62nd celebrations, held also across the 47 counties, commemorate the country’s attainment of full independence on December 12, 1963.

Nyayo's event has been graced by several dignitaries, including Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama, Kenya's Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, and members of the diplomatic corps.

Security around the stadium was heightened ahead of the celebrations, following calls by some United Opposition leaders for a parallel event in protest over what they describe as a rollback of democratic gains.
