Chinese national linked to Dar es Salaam killing charged with illegal firearm possession in Kenya

A Chinese fugitive wanted over a 2022 Dar es Salaam killing has been charged in a Mombasa court with unlawful firearm possession and assault, after his arrest in Likoni. He remains in custody.

A Chinese national wanted by authorities in Tanzania and China over a murder case has been charged in a Mombasa court with unlawful possession of a firearm and assault causing actual bodily harm.

Ling Yao Zheng was arraigned on a charge of unauthorised possession of a firearm, contrary to Section 4(1)(a) of the Firearms Act, Cap 114 of the Laws of Kenya.

Prosecutors told the court that on December 10, 2025, at the Shelly Beach area in Likoni, Mombasa County, the accused was found in possession of a CZ P-10 C pistol loaded with 13 live rounds of 9mm ammunition, without a valid firearm licence or authorisation.

In the same incident, the court heard that Ling assaulted Jane Wambuga Mulei, causing her actual bodily harm.

The accused pleaded guilty to all charges. The matter will be mentioned on January 19, 2026, for the reading of facts and a ruling.

Ling was arrested by officers from Shelly Beach Police Station following an incident reported in the Senti Kumi area.

Serious criminal charges

Preliminary checks established that he was a fugitive facing serious criminal charges outside Kenya.

Security officials confirmed that the suspect is wanted by Tanzanian authorities in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Dar es Salaam in 2022.

Ling is also listed as wanted by Chinese authorities, with international agencies involved in tracking his movements.

According to Tanzanian police, Ling is linked to the killing of Fu Nannan, 26, a fellow Chinese national, who was shot dead on June 11, 2022, at a residential building in Ilala, Dar es Salaam.

In the same incident, a woman identified as Nie Mnqin was shot in the stomach and admitted to Muhimbili National Hospital for treatment.

Kenyan police said the suspect remains in custody as authorities verify documents related to the murder case and continue consultations with foreign law enforcement agencies. Investigations are ongoing.
