Konza Technopolis renamed Technopolis Development Authority after new law takes effect

Konza Technopolis Development Authority has been renamed following the Technopolis Act 2026, with officials assuring stakeholders of continuity in operations and obligations.

The Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KOTDA) has officially been renamed the Technopolis Development Authority following the enactment of the Technopolis Act, 2026.
The change follows Presidential assent by President William Ruto to the Technopolis Act, 2026 (No. 13 of 2026) on May 11, 2026, which was later published in the Kenya Gazette Supplement No. 120 dated May 15, 2026.
In a public notice, Chief Executive Officer John Paul Okwiri said the name change does not affect the Authority’s existing obligations, assets, liabilities, operations, or contractual relationships with stakeholders.
“The change of name does not affect any obligations, assets, liabilities, operations or contractual relationships with our investors, customers, tenants, partners or other stakeholders,” the notice stated.
He added that all official references to the former name will continue to apply under the new identity, ensuring continuity across legal and operational documents.

“All references to Konza Technopolis Development Authority in official documents, correspondence, contracts, and other engagements shall henceforth be construed to refer to Technopolis Development Authority,” the notice read.
According to the Authority, the transition is anchored in the new legal framework and reflects an expanded mandate aimed at strengthening Kenya’s technopolis ecosystem and innovation agenda.
“The change of name takes effect pursuant to the provisions of the Act and reflects the Authority’s expanded mandate under the new legal framework,” the statement added.
Despite the rebranding, the Authority confirmed that its headquarters remain at Konza Technopolis along Mombasa Road.
“The Authority remains committed to delivering its mandate and serving stakeholders with excellence as it advances the development of Kenya’s technopolis ecosystem,” it said.
Okwiri urged stakeholders to take note of the transition and assured continuity in operations, adding that the Technopolis Act is available on the Authority’s website for public reference.
The change formally ushers the institution into its new legal identity as it continues to drive Kenya’s flagship smart city and innovation agenda under the Technopolis framework.
