Part of the first batch of 229 Somali breed camels set to be distributed by the Samburu Governor on Jamhuri Day.
A statement from the department said Governor Leti Leleit scaled up the Somali camel programme targeting beneficiaries in the dry lowlands of Samburu East and Samburu North sub-counties.
They said several wards will receive the donation of the camels in batches.

The department officials stated that the Somali camel breeds have high milk yields, will fetch better prices in the market and improve food security in the county.
Samburu County piloted this unique restocking programme in the year 2020 when the county government bought 1,000 camels for communities affected by the drought and locust invasion.

April this year 300 camels were distributed to the drought-stricken residents of Samburu East Constituency.
