In a strategic move to further degrade the network of bandits and enhance security measures, the Kenyan government has announced the extension of the ongoing Maliza Uhalifu Operation. Interior CS Kithure Kindiki disclosed in a statement that the extension aims to intensify efforts against banditry, particularly in the Northern grazing areas of Meru North, parts of Isiolo and Marsabit, and identified bandit hotspots in Samburu County.
As part of the extended measures, curfew and emergency protocols will be imposed in these regions to facilitate the comprehensive flushing out of bandits and the recovery of livestock. Kindiki emphasized that additional areas will be gazetted as 'Disturbed and Dangerous,' marking the commencement of the operation's third phase.

Speaking from Archers Post in Samburu County, one of the affected areas, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki extended condolences to families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty and those who sustained injuries. He expressed optimism regarding the government's unwavering commitment to defeating banditry, dismantling its infrastructure, and fostering resilience in affected communities, ultimately integrating them into national development efforts.
During his visit to Archers Post, Kindiki engaged in a strategic review and forward planning session with security teams from the Rift Valley and Eastern regions, along with formation field commanders. The Cabinet Secretary commended the security personnel manning the Archers Post Multi-Agency vehicle checkpoint, acknowledging its critical role in combating the flow of illicit arms, human trafficking, and the movement of narcotics and psychotropic substances along the Moyale-Isiolo-Nairobi highway.
