Land ownership boost for Isiolo Central residents as governor issues allotment letters

The governor said that giving people land documents was not just about ownership but also about giving them the power to improve their lives and participate fully in economic activities.

Residents of five areas in Isiolo Central Sub-County are now officially recognised landowners after Governor Abdi Guyo issued 1,191 allotment letters to them.

The event, held at Bula Mpya Primary School in Isiolo on Friday, brought together government officials, political leaders and hundreds of residents who gathered to receive the long-awaited documents.

The land regularisation initiative covers Kulamawe, Kiwanjani, Kambi Bule, Tuluroba, and Kambi Garba. The project was carried out in partnership with the National Land Commission (NLC).

“This exercise is a critical step toward affirming land rights, fostering a sense of belonging, and unlocking the economic potential of our people,” Abdi said.

“By providing legal certainty, these allotment letters empower residents to invest in and develop their properties with confidence,” he added.

Many of the beneficiaries have lived on the land for generations without legal documents, which made it difficult for them to access loans, develop land, or even prove ownership.

Governor Abdi described the occasion as a turning point for the communities, giving them new hope and confidence in building their future.

The governor also used the platform to call for cooperation among elected leaders in Isiolo.

“I urged them to rise above political differences and work collaboratively in the spirit of shared purpose to advance meaningful development and deliver quality services to our people,” Abdi said.

The governor stressed the importance of working together to ensure that the needs of residents are met and called for continued support for national government projects.

“I also encouraged residents to continue supporting the national government to ensure Isiolo remains a priority in key development programs and infrastructure projects,” he said.

The event was attended by top officials including County Commissioner Geoffrey Omonding, Deputy Governor James Lowasa and NLC Vice Chairperson Getrude Nguku.

Others present were NLC Commissioner Tiya Galgalo and Isiolo Lands CEC Yussuf Dahir. Several MCAs also attended the ceremony.

The governor said that giving people land documents was not just about ownership but also about giving them the power to improve their lives and participate fully in economic activities.

Residents welcomed the move, saying it would finally allow them to plan better for the future, seek loans, and make long-term investments.

County officials have promised to roll out similar initiatives in other parts of Isiolo to make sure more families gain land ownership.
