Turkana starts auditing health facilities after CCTV captures suspected medical supplies theft
In a recent incident, a supply chain officer was captured on CCTV at Lodwar County Referral Hospital allegedly stealing medical supplies.
The Turkana County Department of Health and Sanitation has dispatched specialised audit teams to sub-county health facilities in response to allegations of medical supplies theft.
In a press release, County Health Executive Epem Joseph Esekon voiced concern over a recent incident in which a supply chain officer was captured on CCTV at Lodwar County Referral Hospital, allegedly stealing medical supplies.

He said the health department referred the incident to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for an inquiry to ascertain the full scope of misappropriation.
"In accordance with the establishment accountability procedures, the matter has been formally referred to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) for a comprehensive inquiry to ascertain the full scope of misappropriation, and to ensure that all parties implicated are held accountable in accordance with the law," he said.
The Health CEC stated that the department deployed specialised audit teams to various sub-county health facilities to conduct an in-depth review of the supply chain process for accountability purposes.
"This initiative is designed to identify any systemic vulnerabilities and prevent further losses of essential commodities," said Dr Esekon.
According to the health official, the audit will also enhance both transparency and the rational utilisation of high-priority health products and technologies within the county.
He assured the public of the department's commitment to uphold the highest standards of integrity and stewardship in the management of public health resources and continued efforts to implement robust measures to safeguard the public interest.
On 21st May, the Health CEC flagged off a consignment of drugs worth Sh60 million to 229 health facilities in all the 11 sub-counties in Turkana that he said were expected to last for three months.
