Isiolo leaders call for unity as Governor Guyo extends olive branch

Governor Abdi Guyo told the gathering that he bore no resentment toward those who backed his removal and extended an olive branch to opponents.
Isiolo leaders have made a strong appeal for peace and tolerance, urging residents to set aside political divisions that have rocked the county since the failed impeachment of Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo.
During the “Isiolo Pamoja” rally held at the town’s CBD on Thursday, Governor Guyo, County Woman Rep Mumina Bonaya, and former governor Godana Doyo asked citizens to reject divisive politics and embrace unity.

They said Isiolo’s development could only be realised if leaders and residents worked together in harmony rather than along ethnic or political lines.
Guyo told the gathering that he bore no resentment toward those who backed his removal and extended an olive branch to opponents.
“I hold no grudges against anyone who took part in any way during the failed impeachment attempt,” he said, adding that he was ready to cooperate with all leaders to deliver services in the remainder of his term.

Guyo revealed that he had chosen not to hold rallies soon after surviving impeachment, saying he wanted to avoid inflaming tensions in the county. He explained that Senate Speaker Amason Kingi had advised him to focus instead on repairing ties with MCAs and other leaders.
Woman Rep Bonaya echoed the peace call, warning that Isiolo had already wasted more than two months on political wrangles.
She urged residents to wait for the 2027 elections to engage in campaigns and, for no,w support leaders in service delivery.
Doyo, who finished second in the 2022 gubernatorial race, also pledged his backing for Guyo.
He said it was a sign of goodwill that both the first and second governors were now standing with the current governor to ensure Isiolo’s progress.
The leaders concluded by rallying support for President William Ruto, saying his government had fulfilled promises in Isiolo and Northern Kenya and should be supported as the county focuses on peace and development.
