The police commander reported that officers pursued an X-Trail vehicle after receiving a tip-off from members of the public, but the driver and another occupant refused to stop when flagged down.
"The officers gave chase and were eventually forced to deflate the vehicle’s tyres. Realising their speed was compromised, the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot," he said.
He disclosed that investigations revealed the seized vehicle was registered under Ahmed Noor Amin, a businessman in Meru County.
"Preliminary investigations are ongoing, and if it is established that the consignment also belongs to the businessman, he will be arrested and arraigned," Mutisya added.
Mutisya stated that police are on high alert in the fight against drugs, especially with the upcoming Christmas holiday.
He warned drug dealers that their days are numbered, as members of the public are aiding police efforts to identify those involved in drug trafficking and illicit brews.
He noted that the intercepted consignment, en route to Garissa via Isiolo, could have harmed many young people, particularly during the extended school holiday.
