My deputy party leader will be a Gen Z, says Gachagua

Gachagua added that he wants to mentor this generation, blending his experience with their energy, creativity, and knowledge to create a strong leadership combination.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced that his new political party will consider young people, particularly from Generation Z, for leadership positions.

Speaking during a media roundtable on Wednesday, Gachagua revealed that his party's deputy party leader will be a member of Gen Z, reflecting his commitment to involving the youth in leadership positions.

The former DP said that the time has come to shift the narrative about young people. "We don't just tell them they are the leaders of tomorrow. They are the leaders of today," he said.

Gachagua added that he wants to mentor this generation, blending his experience with their energy, creativity, and knowledge to create a strong leadership combination.

"My party will involve them (Gen Z) to a very large extent in the position of deputy party leader. I'm the party leader, my deputy will be a Gen Z so that we involve them. I want to also mentor them, I have the experience, they have the knowledge and creativity, this coupled with my exposure we should have a very good combination," Gachagua explained.

The former DP also expressed his belief that young people trust him due to his past actions in support of their causes.

He pointed to the anti-government protests that saw some young people killed, asserting that he stood up for them during that difficult time.

"The day it mattered most, I spoke for them. When they were being killed in Nairobi, I stood up for them. I am on record," Gachagua said, recalling the heavy price he paid for his support of the youth.

"Gen Z trust me because when it mattered most, I stood up for them and the consequences were very heavy on me. I am a man who has been persecuted because I believed in our young people," he added, stressing the strength of his bond with the youth.

Meanwhile, Gachagua continues to explore political alliances, having met with various opposition leaders, including Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka, People's Liberation Party's Martha Karua, and DAP-K's Eugene Wamalwa.

He has also engaged with both current and former elected leaders from various political backgrounds as he builds support for his new party.
